Dave recalls his career in the building industry below.
“I started my 10,000 hour apprenticeship with Bret Cuff in Invercargill in March 1952- a one man band from the old school where I stayed for over 6 years before looking further afield. After working for another ‘cottage builder’ I spent another couple of years working for a commercial firm before going back to housing for a short period of time.
.
I then started my own account in November 1962 building new houses as well as additions and alternations. In 1965 I was asked by Harold Patton to join the Southland Registered Master Builders Association and was duly accepted. I was elected ton to the Executive Committee where I remained for about 30 years helping on Social committees and organising the annual M.B.A Golf Tournament for 20 years with the help of others during that time.
.
During my time as a member of Southland Master Builders I found it most informative and enjoyed the fellowship of the other members.
After resigning for health reasons in 1998 I was asked to attend a meeting on the 22nd of June 1999 when I was honoured and very humbled to be presented with a Life Membership of the Association.”
